Experience
Julia is the Associate Medical Editor for Pediatric Care Advice, based in Colorado. A board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Bruckner has spent the past decade caring for children in the emergency department and urgent cares at Children’s Hospital Colorado, while serving as an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Her expertise spans health literacy, patient communication, medical writing, and the health humanities. Before entering medicine, she worked as a journalist and public school teacher—experiences that continue to shape her compassionate, evidence-based approach to pediatric communication. Dr. Bruckner has written for Discover magazine, Doximity, GE Healthcare, and Lippincott Wolters Kluwer, and her narrative medicine essays have appeared in JAMA, Academic Pediatrics, and Academic Medicine. She is a contributing author of What We Bring To The Practice of Medicine (Kent State University Press, 2023) and co-editor of Narrative Medicine: A Guidebook to Transforming Hearts and Minds (Taylor & Francis, 2025).
